Six places to see Suzhou's dawn redwoods at their best

Recent cold snaps have triggered the transformation in dawn redwoods across the city, shifting from fresh green to fiery red and golden brown. Here is a dawn redwood map of Suzhou. Save it and head out for picture-perfect winter strolls.

Huqiu Wetland Park

The dawn redwood groves at Huqiu Wetland Park are a winter highlight not to be missed. Yellow, orange, ocher and red blend together in stunning natural views. Visitors can glide slowly across the wetlands on a transparent boat or bamboo raft, enjoying close-up views of the trees reflected in the water.

Taihu Lake National Wetland Park

Visitors are advised to take SND Tram to Xiyangshan Station to reach the park, where dawn redwoods and pond cypresses mirror the water and migratory birds fill the sky. The best spot to admire the trees is the pond cypress forest, with over 2,700 towering pond cypresses planted along both sides of a narrow waterway.

Ten-li Xietang

Xietang River runs from Jinji Lake in the west to Wusong River in the east. Along its banks, rows of dawn redwoods show off their vibrant colors, turning the riverside into what looks like a giant oil painting.

Taihu Hubin National Wetland Park

Different shades of red produced by dawn redwoods reflect in the calm lake waters. Together with flocks of migratory birds, they create a poetic early-winter scene. Now is also the best season to see reed plumes.

Wangong Causeway

Tall pond cypresses have shifted from yellow to red. You can take a walk through Shiguang Forest or relax at a campsite and enjoy the gentle sunshine surrounded by nature.

Shanghu Lake

The dreamy waterside forest at Shanghu Lake Scenic Area has reached its most spectacular time of year. Visitors can drift into the forest on a bamboo raft or stroll along the wooden boardwalk, capturing some of the most beautiful views Shanghu Lake has to offer.
